6 Work at Home Mum Ideas for Organised Types

Written by Josie

So, you’ve decided that your goal is to become a work at home mum, but what are you going to do? In first part of what will be an occasional series on ideas for work at home mums, I’ve put together a list of 6 work at home mum ideas that are particularly suitable for organised types. This one was pretty easy for me me because I am pretty obsessive organised myself.

Virtual Assistant

Becoming a VA is the ultimate in work at home mum ideas for organised types. It’s like being an admin assistant crossed with a personal assistant, but all from the comfort of your PC.

While the majority of VAs work with businesses, you can also offer your skills to individuals who need help with keeping on top of their (never ending) life admin.

At the more personal assistant end of the spectrum you might be involved with ordering items, making travel plans, sending emails or liaising with people to book appointments. At the more administrative end you might be doing audio typing, updating websites or inputting data.

Events Organiser

Events take a massive amount of organising and these days, most of it can be done from home. I run baby and children’s nearly new sales through a franchise but there are plenty of other types of events you could run to make a profit.

You could also work as a freelance event planner, organising events for other people. These could be private events, like weddings, christenings and parties, or corporate events like conferences and exhibitions.

if you enjoy project management, bringing ideas to life and negotiating discounts events Managament is a great work at home mum idea. You can get started with a distance learning events management course.

Home Based Travel Agent

While travel agents used to be a staple of our High Streets, they’ve declined as more and more people have booked holidays themselves on the internet. However many people are now recognising the benefit of professional advice when booking holidays and this has led to an increase in home based travel agents.

The main goal is to create the dream holiday while saving your client money. This involves lots of research (which organised types usually love) as well as the ability to really listen to the client in order to find out their needs.

Local Listings Website

While there are lots of types of websites that people run from home, local listings sites are particularly appealing to the organised type. These could be general local listings sites or family specific ones.

Running local websites are essentially all about organising knowledge in an accessible way. Time is spent researching information and then putting it on to the site. Don’t be put off if you don’t have any web design experience, its actually surprisingly easy to learn using a platform like WordPress or you could consider a franchise.

Professional Declutterer

While this will involve some time away from the home, much of the work is in the marketing and it’s likely you’ll need to go out during the evenings or on the weekends when family may be able to help with childcare.

With more and more people starting to see having too much stuff as a burden there is a market for the Marie Kondo types to help people have a focussed clear out. If you love chucking stuff out then this might be the job for you.

A Portfolio Career

Not sure what you want to do? Why not do it all? A portfolio career involves combining a number of different roles and can suit a work at home mum. I would advise starting with one thing and getting the hang of that first before you add the next thing to avoid overwhelm.

I’ve found that three things is the most I can cope with in my portfolio before one of them starts to get neglected but you may find you can cope with more, depending on what they involve. You can read about my portfolio career in this blog post.

Those are my top 6 ideas for work at home mum jobs that will suit organised types, you can also read about another 50 work at home mum ideas.
